Time Line

1922 - Col Swynfen J Jarvis (who lived at Abbey Willows, Rayford Lane) started the Bartons and Worton Group. Click for photo.

1922 - Worton Scout Group started. Click for photo.

1924 - Barton Troop camp at Wembley Jamboree. Click for photo.

1931 - A patrol is formed at Steeple Aston as part of the Troop.

1934 - Col Jervis ceased being Group Scout Master when he became County Commissioner, probably still much involved.

1935 - A Scout hut was erected on new playing field, on site of 37 & 39 North Street.

1936 - Scouts now meet at Steeple Aston on Monday evenings.

1938 - Scouts Rover section started under F W Bell. Cub meetings held again at Barton and Steeple Aston on Saturday mornings.

1939 - Scouts TL T Grant gained highest honour possible; Bushmans Thong and All Round Gold Cords for 18 proficiency badges.

1941 - Patrol formed at Steeple Aston as part of troop.

1944 - Name changed to Bartons & Astons.

1946 - Bartons & Astons closed, boys to Steeple Aston.

1976 - Cubs started again, under John Keefe.

1977/78 Scouts started again under Michael Baldwin.

1980 - Bartons Scouts & Cubs close, then restarted with Chris Gregory.

1984 - Chris Gregory became Distrrict Commissioner and Tony Outtridge became Scout Leader.
