For this badge the boys grew cress in different conditions to see what happened if the seeds were not watered or kept in the fridge or dark. They all seem to have green fingers as when they put the seeds in the warm and watered they responded well and I think a lot of eggs would have been hard boiled for sandwiches!

For the second part of the badge we looked at sound and how it travels and went on to make string telephones, which the Beavers rather sceptically didn’t believe, would work but of course they did.

Experiment Activity Badge

The Beaver Scout needs to:

decide what they are going to do and what is going to happen

grow something or investigate something and show how it works

share with the Colony what they have discovered.

Some examples of experiments could include:

growing a bulb in a container such as a bottle

growing mustard and cress on a potato or on blotting paper

showing how a torch works, for example, the on/off switch, batteries, bulb reflector

showing what a magnet can do, or making a game using magnets.
